My sister committed suicide on 23/07/93. My life, and that of the rest of the family will never be the same. Was it , as was stated by her treating physicians, AFTER her death, due to Porphyria (The Madness of King George, Princess Margaret, "Royal Disease"). Only genetic testing can prove it, one way or the other.
My friends' sister was murdered by her religious nutter of a brother-in-law and their two children. (Featured on 60 minutes last year.) She received compensation, but has spent every cent and more on legal appeals to prevent the family from proffitting from their crime. They , of course, get free legal aid, to which there seems no limit. Should the public purse be abused in this way?

My condolescences to you and your family on the tragic passing of your sister.
In relation to your friend's sister. I worked for the Legal Aid Commission of NSW for several years and I know how tight the legal aid budget is. But Legal Aid does have a responsibility to ensure all defendants do receive adequate legal representation and that is why the family of her killer is being funded. Legal Aid wouldn't fund the family to instigate legal action against your friend, but they have to fund a defense in such a complicated legal case. I know it doesn't seem fair, but the legal system is based on the principle that everyone deserves a defense, even those who are doing the wrong thing.
Interesting! Never thought of that fact. I suppose the same legal-logic enabled the daughter to try and overturn the 'win' of my friend to her sisters estate.
