Cultural Differences

How easy it is to offend other people, just by the different understanding of a word's meaning. On Facebook, I wished my great-nephew 'break-a-leg' prior to his first stage appearance. I was taken to task, by my niece's husband. Apparently in his circle, this idiom is unknown.
